Laser Eyes Kitty (Virgin Mobile)
Every year we informed visitors of the dates that they needed to have their order approved by, in order to receive their delivery before Christmas. This information needed to be clearly available, but not get in the way of visitors searching for their products and placing their order.
Historically this information sharing was a standard strip across the top of the page. But we were Virgin Mobile; we were in the business of positive disruption, so why did it need to be boring? I did some research to see how other brands (including other Virgin brands) executed similar notifications, and I took my ideas to the design and development teams. They loved it when I did that 😉
And so "Laser Eyes Kitty" was created. Kitties wearing Santa hats lived at the bottom of the page, wearing bling and shooting lasers out of their eyes and taking selfies, and invited the visitor to click for delivery timeframes.
We wanted to make the most of any possible click-through traffic, so in addition to the information expected on the landing page, we also provided some enticing sales information. We knew from previous "fun click" executions that clicks don't necessarily result in orders, however, Laser Eyes Kitty performed considerably better than we expected.
Primary purpose: inform visitors of pre-Christmas delivery timeframes.
Nice-to-have: if people follow through to purchase, who's complaining?
Results: In 3 weeks, Laser Eyes Kitty got 4,344 clicks and contributed directly to 29 orders, and participated in 121 orders. The landing page then had a 2.88% conversion rate.
